Mridula Sarabhai was born (1911) in Ahmedabad, India to an affluent business family. She was one of eight children of Ambalal Sarabhai and Sarla Devi, and sister of famous physicist Vikram Sarabhai. At an early age, Mridula came under the influence of Mahatma Gandhi, moved out of her ancestral home, and became a follower of Gandhijee. She participated in the Salt Satyagraha, and got involved in the Indian Independence Movement. She was also active in fighting for women's equality, rights of minorities, and several other social issues.
