Why Martyrs is celebrated

Martyrs day is celebrated on 30th of January every year as on the same day ,Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated in the year 1948 before the sunset . He was a great freedom fighter of the India and is counted as the greatest among the other martyrs. January 30th of the year 1948 was the saddest year for the country which has become the most poignant day in the Indian history . Gandhi Smriti , a place where Mahatma was killed at this place called birla house . After his assassination, a big crowd gathered in front of the birla house to have a look of the Bapu . So the martyrs days in India is an occasion celebrated every year to remember all the Indian martyrs and pay tribute to them . How Martyrs is celebrated At this day ,the President of India including the Vice President, the Prime Minister, the defence minister and the service chiefs get together at Bapughat the samadhi of the Mahatma Gandhi and offer flowers and garlands to the statue of Bapu . An honourable salute is then given by the armed forces personnel and inter- services contingent to pay respect to all the martyrs . Then the gathered people keep silence for 2 minutes in the memory of the father of the nation and other martyrs. At the same place, religious prayers and bhajans are sung . The various other functions related to the bapus life are carried out by the school students while celebrating the martyrs day .

However in India more than one Martyrs day has been declared to honour the other martyrs of the nation. So this was about Martyrs day also known as Shaheed diwas .
