ARMY HERO SAYS WAR NOT A SOLUTION

He was awarded Param Vir Chakra, the highest wartime gallantry medal. But ask Subedar Major (Honorary Captain) Bana Singh of the 8th J&K Light Infantry Regiment about the Siachen battle for which he won the medal, he will gently shrug it off as “just a call of duty”.
Capt. Singh was in the city for the 2nd annual day of “Youth for Seva”. Talking about the turbulence in Kashmir, he attributed the situation to the wrong-handling by “mantris and santris,” stating the politicians as well as law enforcement agencies went wrong. He however, is hopeful that the situation will improve sometime soon. “In fact, war is no solution since it pulls back every country by at least 20 years. However, terrorism and external attacks need befitting replies,” he maintained. “Youngsters all over India need to be infused with feelings of patriotism,” he said, adding that the current generation in the southern states needs to be motivated and made aware of the avenues in the Army and other defence forces
