Every year, on the 21st of April, the "Civil Service
Day" is observed by all Civil Services to re-dedicate and re-commit
themselves to the cause of the people. It provides a unique opportunity for
introspection as also chalking out future strategies to deal with the challenges
being posed by the changing times.
Why 21st April? Because it was on this day that Sardar Vallabh Bhai Pateladdressed the first batch of civil servants in Independent India at Metcalf House where he referred to civil servants as the 'steel frame of India'.
