Spend a day at Asia’s Cleanest Village in India

Mawlynnong Village which is popularly known as God’s Own Gaden is the cleanest village in India as well as Asia. It sounds contradictory as India is a polluted country and a village in India is the cleanest village. Miracle? In 2003,this village was awarded the label of ‘The Cleanest Village in India’ by Discover India.

There are bamboo dustbins in the village. Plastics are banned. Smoking is banned. These rules are not merely for being formulation but are also followed very strictly by people as well as the acting authorities. Moreover, this place has its own manure which is prepared by converted garbage dug into a pit. People keep their houses clean. They also sweep roads. Planting trees has become an indispensable part of their lives.

Mawlynnong also has ‘Living Roots Bridges’. These have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The bridges are affixed by aerial roots of one large rubber tree with another, while hanging on a river.

If you plan to visit this place, the best part about this place is the food. The food here is prepared by using organically grown vegetables. There is a wide variety of vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian dishes. Even the meat is from in-house bred birds and animals. Apart from all these things, there are many tourist places in this village. To name a few, there is Sky View, Mawlynnong Waterfall and Church of Epiphany. A must visit place in India.
